I awoke today to find that my right ankle was inflamed again and I could barely walk. Barbara presented us with our bill: €680 for seventeen nights including breakfast. That’s €40 a day or about $60 a day and it makes a holiday to Europe quite affordable. There’s no way in Australia that we could get bed and breakfast for two for $60.

After breakfast, we decided to see the other side of the Tegernsee Lake. It was a very pleasant Sunday summer’s day in Bavaria and it appears that the take and its surrounding towns is where everybody wanted to go.
3 Sunday 4 July, 2010
It was very crowded and we were lucky to get a parking spot in the Tegernsee township. I limped to the water’s edge and got quite irritable because of my swollen right ankle.

It’s dawning on me that my 70 years is taking its toll and my health problems on this trip have become so severe that, for the first time ever, it has taken the edge of our holiday. We wandered (I limped) to the Schloss near the water’s edge a short distance away. The sign indicated that it was the summer residence of King Max something circa 1817. Royalty treated itself well back then.

Just up from the Schloss was this huge open air restaurant. I do not think I have ever seen such a large number of people at a place like this before.

The traffic and the noise really irritated me and I was not enjoying myself at all. We drove back to Bad Tölz and had some lunch in the Altstadt area and then returned to the farm.
8 Sunday 4 July, 2010
Back at the farm, it turned midnight in Australia which means we have been married for 35 wonderful years.
9 Sunday 4 July, 2010
To turn our anniversary into an extended celebration, starting at 5 July Sydney time and ending at 5 July European central time, we went out to our favourite restaurant, the Altes Zollhaus. We both had the duck with apple and red sauerkraut, gravy and dumplings.
