I arrive in KL on Wednesday night and stay at the Concorde Hotel. On Thursday morning, a day before Dean and Sam arrive, I tour KL. Next to the Concorde construction of another major building is under way. The Skyline of KL is in continuous change.

From the Concorde it's a short walk to Dang Wangi suburban train station. It was 9:25 in the morning as I recall.

Two stops later and I arrive at KLCC station.

I've taken pictures drom this location twice before and the number of new buildings each time is amazing.
7 Thursday 10 October 2013
I go for a walk through the tropical gardens of KLCC Park and see this banyan tree. Banyan trees surround a support tree with a mesh of roots that sometimes kills the support tree. The support tree eventually rots away leaving a hollow central core that provides shelter for many jungle animals.
8 Thursday 10 October 2013
KLCC Park is a 50-acre garden set close to Suria KLCC shopping centre.
9 Thursday 10 October 2013

The Petronas Twin Towers. Magnificent by day and more so at night. To me, it is the world's most beautiful building.
13 Thursday 10 October 2013
The water feature in Lake Symphony comprises two water fountains that reach a height of 40 metres.
14 Thursday 10 October 2013
Malaysia has three main races: Malays (who are born Muslim), Chinese and Indian. Wearing the head scarf is optional for women.

The muslim kids wear brilliantly coloured school uniforms.
16 Thursday 10 October 2013
It is a short walk, seriously uphill, to the Menara KL Tower. It is used for telecommunications, TV and radio. The tower also acts as the Islamic falak observatory to observe the crescent moon which marks the beginning of Muslim month of Ramadhan. The tower is the highest viewpoint in Kuala Lumpur that is open to the public.
17 Thursday 10 October 2013
St John's Cathedral is the Christian church in the foreground. The tall domed building next to it is the Menara Olympia, a 33 storey office building. Part of KL's Light Rail Transit (LRT) cuts through the centre of the picture. The Menara Maybank HQ - 50 floors - is to the left. The Klang River, one of the two rivers that give KL its name is at the top.
18 Thursday 10 October 2013
Looking south. Traffic streams into KL on Jalan Sultan Ismail. We're looking into the main shopping area of KL at Bukit Bintang. The place with the red roof is the Sungei Wang Plaza - home of boy's toys electronices. The large brown building to the right is the Berjaya Times Square shopping complex. It has movie theatres, a bowling alley, an amusement centre with an indoor roller coaster, shops and restaurants. We stopped here for dinner last year.
19 Thursday 10 October 2013
Malaysia's magnificent icon.
20 Thursday 10 October 2013
Looking to the north, the blue-roofed building is the Istana Budaya, the Palace of Culture. It is Malaysia's main venue for all types of theatre including musical theatre, operetta, classical concert and opera from local and international performers. To the right is the National Library. Behind it is Titiwangsa Lake Garden, a public park.
21 Thursday 10 October 2013
This is where I'm staying, the Concorde Hotel. You wouldn't think I could get lost getting back but I did. It bucketed rain as I took wrong turn after wrong turn. I got back a bit wet but I had my rain jacket with me so it wasn't too bad.
