January 28, 1986  I am at Rancho Bernardo and an engineer there announces that the Challenger Space Shuttle has just blown up 73 seconds into its launch killing all seven crew on board. On board is a school teacher called Christa McCauliffe and this saddens me deeply. The shuttle program stops for two years until NASA management finds someone to blame (themselves). President Reagan postpones the State of the Union address and instead addresses the nation from the Oval Office about the disaster. Personally, it is a very disturbing moment.
