1989 Our New House

Our land when we first bought it. The house next door has already started being built. Jenni was still in America when I bought the land finishing her degree at San Diego State. Next door's house is being built. Our house has not yet been started. Jenni is back from the USA (obviously) while we stay with the Percies in the early part of the year. Roger, Joan and Lee come to take a look. From the back of our block we can see the railway line that connects Hornsby and Gosford to all points north. This is the famous British train, the flying Scotsman, making a visit to Australia during the bicentenary.
Part of the plumbing. Stormwater and sewerage pipes down the back of the block. Slab laid 26 July, 1989     It looks huge to us. Internal walls are going up and our brick feature wall is finished
From the kitchen looking through the laundry and into my workshop. Frame erected 8-10 August, 1989.      Jenni standing in the future kitchen. Bricking started 23 August, 1989. and finished 6 September, 1989. The kitchen looking into the family room. We leave Joan and Roger's place, where we are staying, and visit the site every evening. The family room benefits from the extra metre we add to the length of the house. The guest bedroom gets another metre as well.
In the family room looking down the hallway to the master bedroom and bedroom 3. The guest bedroom and main bathroom are through the arch and the remaining doorway is for bedroom 4. Even though this is a project home, we are never disappointed. Everything is exactly as we'd asked for. Plumbing and wiring for the kitchen are now installed. A year or so later, I drill a hole through the bricks and install a tap in the cold water line and install an outside garden tap. To get things in perspective we buy a canoe to take advantage of the water lands around Ku-ring-gai National Park At Berowra Waters during 1989. We hardly use the canoe at all for the next 30 years and finally sell it in 2021 for $100
Front doors are on. And the garage doors are on as well. At the end of the build we have a lover of bricks and tiles left over and a huge amount of firewood which we never used as firewood. From the back corner of the house looking at the ensuite bathroom window. We had to pay extra for extra footings at this corner of the house.
Looking at my workshop whith the kitchen to the left and the family room to the left of that. Jenni heads towards the master bedroom. Inside my workshop. 24 October, 1989 Ready to move in, final inspection passed, hardly anything wrong, very pleased with the house.
House is now painted the site has been cleared and everything looks very good. A few months later and we have blinds fitted and a letterbox but no driveway. 1989 OurNewHouse 0026 Monday 31 October, 1989      We say goodbye to our bedroom at Joan and Roger's place and move to our new house at Mount Colah. We've been here for five months. Thanks Joan and Roger, we can never repay you.
Early November, 1989      In our new house at last. What a year! November, 1989      We move into our new home at Mount Colah, we have our furniture out of storage and Jacqui comes to visit.
