2 Lorenzo scored his third pole in a row and started beside Pedrosa and Valentino who finally qualified on the front row. Stoner qualified ninth and finished fifth, his season still not fully under way.
3 Valentino for once beat Pedrosa off the line and was closely followed by Lorenzo and Dovizioso. Dovi was riding a privateer Honda and had qualified seventh. Hayden (69), qualified fourth but is already dropping back.
4 By the end of lap 1, Lorenzo had overtaken Pedrosa and Rossi and had moved into the lead leaving Valentino in second and Pedrosa in third.
5 Valentino moved into the lead on lap 3 and held this position for the next ten laps.
6 On lap 13, Lorenzo overtook Rossi and moved into the lead where he stayed for the rest of the race. Then on lap 15, Pedrosa passed Rossi and moved into second place. These positions were maintained for the remaining 13 laps although Rossi dropped a long way behind the front two finishing 12.7 seconds behind Lorenzo. Still, it was his second podium on Bridgestone tyres and his main rival Casey Stoner was still struggling.
7 Lorenzo celebrates his first MotoGP win on his third attempt. With a win and a second apiece, Lorenzo and Pedrosa were coleaders on 61 points each. Valentino remained in third place in the championship on 47 points. Stoner was fourth on 41 points.
