The grid was Lorenzo (his second pole in a row), Pedrosa and Edwards while Valentino qualified in fifth. Going into turn 1 Pedrosa leads with Rossi getting his usual slow start. He was sixth at the end of lap 1 while Pedrosa never relinquished first place. Although he had won the previous GP at Qatar, Casey Stoner had problems and could only qualify seventh.
On lap 3, Valentino passed Nicky Hayden to take third spot. Casey Stoner had a troubled race, running off the track twice, and eventually finishing in eleventh.
On lap 4, Rossi passed Lorenzo to take second place place while Hayden maintained fourth place until the end. Meanwhile, Pedrosa was flying at the front with a 1½ second lead.
Lorenzo pressured Valentino until nearly the end of the race
However, the gap widened over the last three laps. Luckily, because Valentino miscounted the laps and thought he'd claimed second spot but there was still one more lap to go.
Pedrosa was a runaway winner easing back on the last lap to win by 2.9 seconds. Rossi was delighted because this was his first podium on Bridgestone tyres. Lorenzo has Chupa Chups as a sponsor hence the irritating habit of sucking on one during podium ceremonies. Rossi moved from fifth to third in the championship behind Pedrosa and Lorenzo.
