2 Dani Pedrosa got pole, Edwards second, Stoner third while Valentino started in fourth. Casey blew everyone away at the start and entered turn 1 first. Pedrosa followed closely in second while Colin Edwards (5) dropped back to fourth. Valentino was in fifth position behind Nicky Hayden (69) by the end of lap 1.
3 Valentino moved past Nicky Hayden on lap 2 into fourth place. Chris Vermeulen is tagging along behind.
4 On lap 4, Valentino passed Pedrosa to take second spot. Casey had been in first place since the start.
5 On lap 8, Valentino moved past Casey Stoner into the lead. Casey held third place behind Pedrosa until engine failure put him out of the race.
6 Lorenzo had another remarkable story to tell. He had crashed on the Friday and the Saturday but qualified in fifth place. By lap 2 he had dropped to eleventh. Then he started to ride through the pain barrier and overtook Colin Edwards on lap 18 and Pedrosa on lap 21 of 28 to take second place.
8 Lorenzo's injuries meant he had to sit during the podium ceremony. Colin Edwards gained his first podium of the year finishing third and in front of Dani Pedrosa. Rossi's victory put him at the top of the championship table on 97 points with Lorenzo and Pedrosa equal second with 94 points. Casey remained fourth with 56 points. Masao Furusawa, Yamaha's Executive officer, Engineering Operations joined the all Yamaha podium.
