 4 On lap 4, Valentino passed Pedrosa to take second spot. Casey had been in first place since the start. |
 5 On lap 8, Valentino moved past Casey Stoner into the lead. Casey held third place behind Pedrosa until engine failure put him out of the race. |
 6 Lorenzo had another remarkable story to tell. He had crashed on the Friday and the Saturday but qualified in fifth place. By lap 2 he had dropped to eleventh. Then he started to ride through the pain barrier and overtook Colin Edwards on lap 18 and Pedrosa on lap 21 of 28 to take second place. |
 7 This was Rossi's 90th GP victory putting him equal with Angel Nieto. In a staged celebration, Nieto rode Rossi's M1 back to parc fermé with Valentino as his passenger. |
 8 Lorenzo's injuries meant he had to sit during the podium ceremony. Colin Edwards gained his first podium of the year finishing third and in front of Dani Pedrosa. Rossi's victory put him at the top of the championship table on 97 points with Lorenzo and Pedrosa equal second with 94 points. Casey remained fourth with 56 points. Masao Furusawa, Yamaha's Executive officer, Engineering Operations joined the all Yamaha podium. |
