Thursday 26 May, 2022 On the way to Depot Beach we stop at Ulladulla for a pee break and lunch Thursday 26 May, 2022 The "Fisherman's Wharf" is the green building in the background. Thursday 26 May, 2022 A small beach is bordered by some pleasant grasslands with Norfolk Island Pines. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Near here is a "Fisherman's Wharf." "Lets get some genuine fish and chips from here," we sez. It is bloody awful.
Thursday 26 May, 2022 We won't be stopping there again. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Ulludulla has pretty much been ruined as a beauty spot with an ugly stone breakwater. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Even the waterfront is ugly with a concrete swimming pool built into the rocky shoreline and a stone breakwater. Thursday 26 May, 2022 The road into Depot Beach is in bad shape after this year's continuous, heavy rains.
Thursday 26 May, 2022 This is home for the next four nights. Thursday 26 May, 2022 We nearly get bogged in the soft, squishy ground. We park up under the trees instead of next to the cabin. Thursday 26 May, 2022 In front of our front porch we have kangaroos grazing. Thursday 26 May, 2022 It's about 15:00 and nearly winter; we go down the slippery steps to Depot Beach.
Thursday 26 May, 2022 The sun is low in the sky and it creates beams of light in the sea mist. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Jenni takes a picture of my long hair which she adores. Thursday 26 May, 2022 We don't see any kangaroos just yet. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Yeah I know, I've put on some weight and I'm back to 100 kg. Time to get serious again.
Thursday 26 May, 2022 It's a bit cold, I go back to the cabin while Jenni explores some more. Thursday 26 May, 2022 A weak, pale sun slowly sets. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Depot Beach is one of the few places left in NSW where the trees grow to the water's edge. There is only a handful of these littoral forests left along the 2,100 Kms of NSW coastline. Thursday 26 May, 2022 Jenni captures the sounds of Depot Beach.
Thursday 26 May, 2022 Wood Ducks mess around in a tidal pool near the beach. Thursday 26 May, 2022 "All native duck species are protected and the most common native species found throughout NSW are the Pacific Black Duck and the Australian Wood Duck." Thursday 26 May, 2022 We go into Bateman's Bay for dinner and sit outside a cafe in the cold. I have a chicken schnitzel roll and the food is surprisingly good. We also pick up a few supplies from Coles. Thursday 26 May, 2022 At the Park Ranger's Cabin, Jenni Picks up a brochure that she thinks may be of interest. The amazing gallery of formations and folds of sandstone, siltstone, shale, granite and basalt along Eurobodalla's coast date back as far as 510 million years. The coastline itself was shaped around 90 to 10 million years ago when the Lord Howe Rise rifted away from what is now the south-east coast." Of interest: This rifting is what pushed NZ to its current location in the Pacific.
