SHIRE OF EUROBODALLA THIS ANCHOR, RAISED FROM THE TOMAGA RIVER WHERE IT HAD SERVED AS AN AID TO NAVIGATION DURING THE EARLY PART OF THIS CENTURY, WAS ERECTED BY THE EUROBODALLA SHIRE COUNCIL TO COMMEMORATE THE BI-CENTENARY OF CAPTAIN COOK'S HISTORIC VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY ALONG THE N.S.W. COASTLINE, PASSING TOMHANHGAN (THE ABORIGINAL NAME FOR THE RJVER) ON THIS DAY 200 YEARS AGO. IT ALSO RECALLS THE SIGNIFICANT PART PLAYED BY THE MARITIME SERVICES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS REGION IN THE EARLY DAYS OF SETTLEMENT.
