This is our last day on the road. We travel from Klamath Falls most of the way down I 5 but take a small detour to see California's Old Faithful geyser. We travelled 431 miles today and our total miles from LA was 4168. On this trip we've been to the Mexican and Canadian borders.

We continue south on US 97. The traffic is horrendous. Today we switch to daylight savings time so we lose an hour.

Mt Shasta in California has been in view since shortly after leaving Klamath Falls which is 72 miles behind us. Mt Shasta stands some 11,000 higher than the surrounding countryside and my guess is that we've been seeing it for about 50 miles.

During the last 10,000 years Shasta has erupted on average every 800 years, but in the past 4,500 years the volcano has erupted on average every 600 years. There are fumaroles (smoke-emitting openings) on the mountain which show that Shasta is still alive.

We travel down I5 through the flat and boring Sacramento Valley. We then take SR20 to SR29. SR29 is a fabulous motorcycle road and we stop at this Deli for refreshment, as do many motorcyclists.

From here we continued down through the Napa Valley where we joined I 80 for the run into San Francisco. We crossed the San Mateo Bridge and found our way to the Fancher's at Foster City.
